2010 NaNoWriMo Book Drive!
What it's all about The First Annual Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive will take place from October 1-December 15, 2010. To facilitate the Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive, the Office of Letters and Light has partnered with Better World Books, a socially conscious online bookstore. All across the US, Canada, and UK, teams of high-velocity novelists will be taking a break from bashing out their month-long masterworks to gather untold numbers of books. The proceeds from the sale of these books will expand and improve OLL’s free creative writing programs for kids and adults worldwide.
Why: The nonprofit Office of Letters and Light provides free creative writing programs to 250,000 people in 90 countries every year. The Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive will raise much-needed funds to expand and improve OLL’s programs, including National Novel Writing Month, the Young Writers Program, and Script Frenzy. These grassroots programs—based out of living rooms, libraries, cafes, and classrooms—help kids and adults discover the life-changing joys of writing. The Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive gives participants who love OLL a great way to directly contribute to its success.
What's in it for you: Besides the joy of knowing you've performed a great community service, there will be both local and national level awards!
Local Level:
Every NaNoWriMo participant who donates at a write-in session will receive a prize, whether it's a swag sticker, a grab-bag-esque goodie, etc. We want to recognize your contributions regardless of our international standing in the contest.
